IMPORTANT! All players agree to each pay £5 to the game winner at the end of the tournament. Please bear this in mind before you take part.
Players need to give predictions to Robbie before each game kicks off.
Predictions should be sent directly to Robbie, rather than through the group chat, to avoid influencing other players (especially towards the later stages).
Once all the predictions are in, they will be posted to the group chat to allow for reasoned critique and intelligent debate. Or piss-taking and slagging, it's up to you.
The 'Average' player is an experiment just for a bit of fun. It takes all our predictions and works out the average score for each team, rounding up or down to the nearest goal. Are we better predicting as a collective, or individually? Let's find out.
Group Games
For the group games, points will be awarded as follows:
1 point if your prediction has the correct match winner.
2 points if your prediction also matches the margin of victory, e.g you predict 2-0 and the match ends 3-1. (by default, a draw will score at lest 2 points)
3 points if you manage to predict the exact score.
The maximum points avalible for each group game is 3.
Knockout Stage
In the knockout stage, your prediction is for the standard 90 minutes only.
You should also tell me which team you think will advance, should the match go to extra-time and penalties
The extra-time prediction does not have to match your main prediction, e.g. It's fine to pick Team A to win 2-1, but Team B to advance if the match goes past 90 mins.
Scoring for the knockout rounds is the same at the group stage, plus:
1 bonus point for every correct ET/Pens prediction
That takes the maximum points for each knockout game to 4.
End Game
If more than one player is on the same points tally, then the following criteria will be used to seperate them:
Number of 3 point scores
Number of 2 point scores
Number of 1 point scores
Number of ET/Pens bonus points
Closest total predicted goals to the total tournament goals (excluding ET and Pens)
If there is still no clear winner after all that, the game will be decided by a bare-knuckle fist-fight in a dank, dimly lit basement. Venue TBD.
